So there's a human/environment challenge that's just  so important! You are into it but… it's so complex! 

Do you need an evaluation but don’t know what to measure or how? I see evaluation as a strategic and forward looking not just a retrospective look for accountability If your work is complex and important I’d love to be involved- and ideally to involve your team in actually evaluating. In 2023 I evaluated with a team of women and men in Afghanistan, in 2022 with current and former prisoners in New Zealand and street kids in Kenya. Participants felt understood, the evaluations were of high quality and the teams excited and upskilled for the next steps. We all had fun and enriched our relationships.

I enjoy design as much as evaluation. Infact I see them on a continuum, each segueing smoothly into the other. In complexity design is just as difficult as evaluation Maybe the context is changing quickly or system dynamics are unclear. Perhaps there are multiple drivers of different types or scales or new dimensions emerging as you watch. You might think you understand how the system works but know that doesn't mean you control it. I can’t give you control, but can offer ways to find next right steps in uncontrollable, unpredictable messiness. Maybe training for your team to become more comfortable thinking and working in uncontrolled situations would be a start.
